Question: A wall of length 10m was to be built across an open ground. The height of the wall is 4m and thickness of the wall is 24cm. If the wall is to be built up with bricks whose dimensions are 24cm×12cm×8cm, how many bricks would be required?

→Solution:

⇒Given:

  • Length = 10m = 10×100 = 1000cm
  • Thickness = 24cm
  • Height = 4m = 4×100 = 400cm

⇔Since the wall with all its brick makes up the space occupied by it, we need to find the volume of the wall, ∴It is a cuboid.

  • Volume = length × breadth × thickness
  • Volume = 1000 × 24 × 400 cm³

⇔Now, each brick is a cuboid with:

  • Length = 24cm
  • Breadth = 12cm
  • Height = 8cm
  • Volume (each brick) = 24×12×8 cm³

⇒Number of bricks = volume of the wall ÷ volume of each brick

  • 100×24×400÷24×12×8
  • 4166.6

∴The wall requires 4166.6 ( 4167 ) bricks to be constructed.
