Given  : Washing machine was sold for Rs.5760 after successive discounts of 15% and 10% respectively .

Let marked price of washing machine  =  x 

So,
Selling price after 15% discount  =  x  -  15% of x  =  x - 15 x100 = x  − 3 x20=  20 x − 3 x20 =  17 x20

And

Selling price after second discount of 10%  = 17x20 − 10% of17x20 , So

17x20 − 10 ×17 x20100 = 5760⇒17x20 −  17x200  = 5760⇒170x − 17 x 200 = 5760⇒153 x 200 = 5760⇒x = 5760 × 200153⇒x =1152000 153⇒x =7529.41

So,

Marked price of washing machine  = Rs .7529.41                                                ( Ans )
