Step-by-step explanation:

Given a watch when sold at a profit of 6% yields Rs.870 more than when it is sold at a loss of 6% .Find the cost price of the watch

  • Let the cost price of the watch be m
  • So profit is 6% = 0.06
  • So selling price is 1.06 m--------------1
  • So cost price is m
  • Loss is 6%
  • Now selling price will be 100 – 6 = 94 = 0.94 m------------2
  • According to the question a watch sold at profit 6% yields 870 more.
  • So Equation 2 -  1 will be
  •                       1.06 m – 0.94 m = 870
  •                                0.12 m = 870
  •                          Or m = 870 / 0.12
  •                           So m = 7250
  • Therefore the cost price of the watch is Rs 7250

Given,

When sold at a profit of 6% = rs 870 more than when sold at a loss of 6%

To find,

The cost price of the watch

Solution,

Let the cost price of the watch be m

So profit is 6% = 0.06

So selling price is 1.06 m--------------1

Loss is 6%

selling price = 100 – 6 = 94

= 0.94 m------------2

According to the question, a watch sold at a profit of 6% yields 870 more.

So Equation 2 -  1 will be

                         1.06 m – 0.94 m = 870

                                  0.12 m = 870

                            Or m = 870 / 0.12

                             So m = 7250

Therefore the cost price of the watch is Rs 7250
