A water bucket is suspended by two cables as shown below. The maximum tension either cable can withstand is 10 lbs. What is the maximum weight of the water bucket that can be supported?

As per the given figure we can say let the tension in left string is T1 and right string is T2

So by force balance in horizontal direction we have

T_1cos53 = T_2 sin30

T_1(0.6) = T_2(0.5)

1.2T_1 = T_2

so we can say that

T_2 = 10 lb

T_1 = 8.33 lb

now force balance in vertical direction we have

T_1 sin53 + T_2 cos30 = mg

so we have

8.33 sin53 + 10 cos30 = mg

m = 15.3 lb
