a) Because water weights it needs to be composed of something, and something is atoms, atoms have weight because it is matter. H2O, also known as water, is based on H2 (witch is a molecule of two hydrogen atoms) and O (witch is one oxygen atom).

b) Gases can be compressed, because they just take up whatever space is available to them. This is because gases consist of molecules that have too little interactions between them to stick together. They just move along until they collide, either with a wall or with each other. Compressing means that you move the walls in, which makes collisions more frequent (this is basically what we call pressure).

Under normal atmospheric pressure at room temperature, the molecules of regular gases take up only 0.1% of the space available.

c) They are held tightly together by strong forces of attraction. They are held in fixed positions but they do vibrate. Because the particles don't move, solids have a definite shape and volume, and can't flow. Because the particles are already packed closely together, solids can't easily be compressed.

d) Melting of wax is physical change. In melting of wax, only the state of wax changes from solid to liquid. It is a reversible reaction and no new substance is formed. ... When the candle burns, the wax slowly melts which freezes after some time (Physical change).
