Dear friend,

Total capacity of the tank = 500 l
Time taken to fill the tank = 5/2 hrs.

Then,

 \frac{7}{10}of500 = 350 \: l

Time taken to fill 500 l = 5/2 hrs.

Time taken to fill 1 l = 5/(2×500) = 1/40 hrs.

Time taken to fill 350 l = (1/40) × 350 = 8.75 hrs.

Answer. It can fill 7/10 of the tank in 8.75 hrs.

Hope it helps !!!

Answer:

See the water tank is of 500 ltr.

The pipe filled this tank fully in 2 hrs and 30 mins.

They asked us that how much time will require to fill 7/10 th of tank.

So we first find the 7/10th part of the 500 ltr tank.

7/10 th of 500 = (7/10)×500 = 350 ltr

Now we convert 2 hrs 30 mins into fractions = 150/60 = 5/2 hrs

(Note : Here of course 350 ltr is less than 500 ltr so our answer must be below 2 hrs and 30 mins.)

Now we'll find time require to fill 1 ltr of water in tank. So,

500 ltr = 5/2 hrs

1 ltr = x hrs

So by cross multiplication,

500 × x = (5/2)×1

x = 5/2×500

x = 1/200

I.e. for filling 1 ltr water it requires 1/200 hrs.

So now we'll find out for filling 350 ltr water how much time will require,

For filling 350 ltr = (1/200)×350 = 7/4 hrs

It means for filling 350 ltr water in tank 7/4 hrs i.e. 1.75 hrs i.e. in simple clock 1 hour and 45 minutes will require.

(Cross check of my answer :

350 ltr = 7/4 hrs

500 ltr = x

Cross multiplication,

350 × x = (7/4)×500

350 × x = 7 × 125

x = 7 × 125/ 350

x = 875/350

x = 5/2 i.e. our 2 hrs 30 mins.

Hence answer is sure with cross check)
