Given - Initial power - 1 HP

Initial Flow rate - 1 m/s

New flow rate- 2 m/s

Find - New power

Solution - Power of water pump and flow rate of water through cylindrical pipe line are related by the formula -

P2 / P1 = (V2 / V1)³

In the formula, P2 is New power, P1 is initial power, V2 is new flow rate while V1 represents initial flow rate.

Keeping the values in equation-

P2 = (2/1)³*1

P2 = 8 HP.

Hence, power of new water pump should be 8 HP.
