Ca(HCO3)+Na2CO3=CaCO3+2NaHCO3

Explanation:

On adding sodium carbonate i.e baking soda to temporary hard water it forms calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate which no longer cause hardness in water(calcium carbonate can be removed)
