A water tank has two inlet and one outlet. inlet one can fill the tank alone in 40 minutes and inlet 2 can fill the tank alone in 20 minutes. The outlet can empty the tank in 30 minutes. If the tank is to be filled while both the inlets and outlets are open, how much time will they take to empty or fill the tank?

Answer:
24 minutes
Step-by-step explanation:
Time taken by inlet 1 alone to fill the tank completely = 40 mins
Time taken by inlet 2 alone to fill the tank completely = 20 mins
Time taken by outlet to completely empty the tank = 30 mins
Work done in 1 minute by,
Inlet 1 = 1/40 part
Inlet 2 = 1/20 part
Outlet = 1/30 part
When both the inlets and the outlet are opened together then work done in 1 minute = 1/40 + 1/20 - 1/30 part
= 3 + 6 - 4/120 part
= 5/120 part
= 1/24 part
Now time taken to fill the tank if all the taps are opened = 1/(1/24) mins
= 24 minutes
Hope it helps you....
