A water tank has two inlets and one outlet. Inlet 1 can fill the tank alone in 40 minutes and inlet
2 can fill the tank alone in 20 minutes. The outlet can empty the
Tank in 30 minutes. If the tank is to be filled while both the inlets and the outlet. If the tank is to be filled while both the inlets and the outlets are open, how long will it take for the tank to fill?

Time taken by inlet 2 alone to fill the tank completely = 20 mins

Time taken by outlet to completely empty the tank = 30 mins

Work done in 1 minute by,

Inlet 1 = 1/40 part

Inlet 2 = 1/20 part

Outlet = 1/30 part

When both the inlets and the outlet are opened together then work done in 1 minute = 1/40 + 1/20 - 1/30 part

= 3 + 6 - 4/120 part

= 5/120 part

= 1/24 part

Now time taken to fill the tank if all the taps are opened = 1/(1/24) mins

= 24 minutes
