Correct Question:

A water tank in the form of a cylinder whose radius and height are in the ratio 1:3 find the radius if its volume is 3234cm³

Solution:

The radius and height are in the ratio 1:3

Let Radius = x

     Height = 3x

Volume of cylinder = π r² h

⇒ 3234 = 22/7 × x² ×3x

⇒ 3234 × 7/22 = 3x³

⇒ 3x³ = 1029

⇒ x³ = 1029 ÷ 3

⇒ x³ = 343

⇒ x = ∛343

x = 7 cm

Also

Height = 3x

⇒ Height = 3 × 7

Height = 21 cm

Therefore,

  • Radius = 7 cm
  • Height = 21 cm

Additional information:

  1. The Curved Surface Area of a cylinder is 2 π rh
  2. The Total Surface Area of a cylinder is 2 π r² + 2 π rh

volume = πr2h

=π×(3x)2×2x

=18πx3

8×722×x3=19404

x3=343⇒x=7 cm

∴ Radius = 3×7=21cm

height = 2×7=14cm
