GIVEN

A water tank is formed with the combination of cylinder and hemisphere. The total height of the tank is 20 m and base area is 154 m.

SOLUTION

what is the total cost to fill the water?

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows;

we are given,

Area of the hemisphere = πr²

πr² = 154m²

r² = (154×7)/22 = 49

r = 7cm

Now,

Volume of hemispherical part = 2/3 (πr3)

 =  \frac{2}{3}  \times \ \frac{22}{7} \times  {7}^{3}

= 646.212m³

Now,

Height of cylindrical part = Total height - radius of hemisphere.

= 20 - 7

= 13m

Volume of cylindrical part = πr²h

 =  \frac{22}{7}  \times 7 \times 7 \times 13

= 2001.19m³

Total volume of water in the tank = 646.212 + 2001.19 = 2647.402m³

Now,

We know that,

1m³ = 1 l

Therefore,

Volume of water in liters = 2647.402 L

Cost of filling the tank = 45 paisa per litre = 0.45 rupees per litre.

Cost of filling 2647.402 Liters of water = 2647.402 × 0.45 = 1,191.3309≈ Rs 1,191.33

Hence, The answer is Rs 1,191.33
