A wave is a disturbance of the particles of a substance in a periodic manner which may be propagated without net movement of the particles, such as in the case of the passage of undulating motion, heat, or sound.

We know, the equation of wave is given by

x = A*cos(wt -ky).........(1)

Here the equation of wave is given as

x = 4 cos(8t-y/2)...........(2)

So, comapring equation 1 and 2 we get,

w = 8

Or, 2*3.14*f = 8 (where f is the frquency)

Or, f = 8 / (2 * 3.14)

Or, f = 1.274 s^(-1)

So, the frequency of the wave is 1.274 s^(-1).
