A wave travelling along a string is described by y(x.,t)= 0.005sin (80.0x-3.0t). Calculate the displacement of y of the wave at a distance x=30.0cm and time t=20 s?

The displacement of the wave will be 5 mm

Explanation :

Given,

x = 30 cm = 0.3 m

t = 20 s

y(x.,t)= 0.005sin (80.0x-3.0t)

putting the values of x and t in the above equation we get,

y = 0.005 sin( 80x0.3 - 3x20)

=> y = 0.005 sin(24 -60)

= > y = 0.005 sin(-36)                       { here -36 is in radians}

=> y = 0.005 x 0.99 ≅ 0.005 m = 5 mm

Hence the displacement of the wave will be 5 mm
