let \: width \: of \: parapet = x \\ r1 =  \frac{140}{2}  = 70cm \\ r2 = 70 + x \\ 2\pi \: r2 = 616 \\ 2 \times  \frac{22}{7}  \times (70 + x) = 616 \\  \frac{44}{7}  \times (70 + x) = 616 \\ 70 + x =  \frac{616 \times 7}{44}  \\ 70 + x = 14\times 7 \\ x = 98 - 70 \\ x = 28cm

The width of the parpet is 28 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

Diameter of well = 140 cm

Radius of well =\frac{140}{2}=70 cm

The length of the outer edge of the parpet is 616 cm

Circumference =2\pi r = 2 \times \frac{22}{7} \times r

So, 2 \times \frac{22}{7} \times r=616

r=616 \times \frac{7}{2 \times 22}

r=98 cm

Width of parpet = 98 cm - 70 cm = 28 cm

Hence the width of the parpet is 28 cm
