The strategic metal is the important metal or mineral that is essential for securing the defense of the country, but which is not available in plenty due to limited production in the country. 

Chromium is known to be a strategic metal
 that is used for military purposes, for making the steel used in making weapons and vehicles perfectly corrosion proof and Chromium is also included among the metals need for manufacturing military aircraft.
