(a) What are the different ways in which microliths were used❓

A microlith is a small stone tool usually made of flint or chert and typically a centimetre or so in length and half a centimetre wide. They were made by humans from around 35,000 to 3,000 years ago, across Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. The microliths were used in spear points and arrowheads.

(b)How did the discovery of fire change life for early man❓

The early humans discovered fire by rubbing two flint stones against each other. They used to make fires in front of the caves to scare away wild animals. They used to hunt wild animals, skin them and chop them. They survived on food that was hunted and gathered.

(c) What is the difference between core tools and flake tools

Core tools

  • Core tools are the tools made by breaking and shaping large stones.

Flake tools

  • Flake tools are tools made from smaller pieces of rock and were used as choppers and knives to chop meat and skin animals.
