a) At the points A & B the deviations are same. At C the deviation is minimum.
b) refractive index, n = sin[(A+D)/2] / Sin[A/2]
A = angle of prism
Ie, 60°
D = minimum deviation
ie, 40°
·: n = sin [(60+40)/2] /Sin [60/2]
= sin (50) / Sin (30)
= 0. 7660/0. 5
= 1. 532 //
