(a)A solar day is the time it takes for the Earth to rotate about its axis so that the Sun appears in the same position in the sky. Although a simple definition of a day is the time it takes for a planet, satellite or other celestial body to complete one rotation about its axis, two alternative definitions exist.

(B)24 hours

(C)One mean day is 24 hours in length, each hour consisting of 60 minutes, and each minute consisting of 60 seconds. Though the amount of daylight varies significantly throughout the year, the length of a mean solar day is kept constant, unlike that of an apparent solar day.

D)If there are 24 hours in a day, 60 minutes in an hour, and 60 seconds in a minute, then there should be in a solar day. But, there aren't! The Earth's rotation is not consistent, that is if we measure the length of a mean solar day, it is not consistently 86,400 seconds.
