Reasons for Prem not returning to his village

• The monkey was initially terrified and sad.

• He soon came up with a plan to save himself from the crocodile.
• He assured the crocodile of giving his heart to his wife which he had left on the tree.
• He thus fooled the crocodile, who made the monkey sit on his back and take him back to the river-bank to fetch the heart.
• On reaching there, the monkey jumped on to the tree to reach a safe spot thereby saving his life from the crocodile.
