Explanation:

(a) Redox reaction:

The redox reaction involved taking place of reduction and oxidation reaction simultaneously. In this reaction, one element/compound undergoes oxidation reaction and another element/compound undergoes reduction reaction.

(b) Chemical reaction:

2 M g_{(s)}+O_{2(g)} \rightarrow 2 M g O_{(s)}

The magnesium reacts with oxygen to form magnesium oxide. In this reaction, oxidation is involved. The magnesium (undergoes oxidation) losses electrons to combine with oxygen and form magnesium oxide.

(c) Chemical reaction:

Magnesium dioxide + Hydrochloric acid → Magnesium chloride + Water + Chlorine

(i) The substance oxidised is chlorine (Cl).

(ii) The oxidising agent is magnesium dioxide (MnO_2).

(iii) The substance reduced is magnesium chloride(MnCl_2).

(iv) The reducing agent is hydrochloric acid (HCl).
