a} A solenoid can be a kind of long coil that has a number of closely wound circular turns made of insulated copper wire in cylindrical form.

The magnetic field formed by a solenoid is quite similar to that of a bar magnet.

The magnetic field due to current- induced solenoid will be parallel to the solenoid on the outer side and anti-clockwise on the inner side of the circuit.

b} It can be used to determine the direction of current in a generator's windings. The right hand is held with the thumb, first finger and second finger mutually perpendicular to each other (at right angles), as shown in the diagram. The thumb is pointed in the direction of motion of the conductor.
