(a) What is a solenoid? Draw a sketch of the pattern of field lines of the magnetic field through and around a current carrying solenoid. (b) Consider a circular loop of a wire lying in the plane of the table. Let the current pass through the loop clockwise. Apply the right hand rule to find out the direction of the magnetic field inside and outside the loop.

a) A coil of many circulate turns of insulated copper wire wrapped closely in the shape of a cylinder is called a solenoid

b) since the current passes through the loop in clockwise direction the front face of the loop will be the south Pole and other will be north pole . According to right hand rule the direction of magnetic field inside the loop will be pointing down wards and in outside it will be pointing up wards

(a)

(i) A solenoid can be a kind of long coil that has a number of closely wound circular turns made of insulated copper wire in cylindrical form.

(ii) The magnetic field formed by a solenoid is quite similar to that of a bar magnet.

The magnetic field due to current- induced solenoid will be parallel to the solenoid on the outer side and anti-clockwise on the inner side of the circuit.

(iii) As the current passes in a clockwise manner in the loop, hence the outer face will be the south pole while the back face, i.e., the side which is in contact with the table will form the north pole.

As per the right-hand rule, the direction of the magnetic field within the loop will point downwards.

Outside the loop, the magnetic field direction will be towards the top.
