When electric current flows through a substance for a period of time , the temperature of the substance increases . The phenomenon of increase in temperature or genaration of heat in a substance when electric current

flows through it is called heating effect of current.

— Two electrical appliances which work on this effect are - 1. It is used in lighting appliances like electric bulb and incandescent lamps.

2. Heating effect of current is also used in heating appliances such as immersion rods , electric irons, etc.
