a. What is meant by the amperage of an electric appliance
b. What is the relation between the thickness of the conductors and it's amperage.
c. A 1000W , 240V electric iron is used in our house. Calculate the amperage?​

  1. Amps on the other hand is defined as how much energy an appliance draws, or the rate of energy that flows through wire when an appliance is used for 1 hour. Finally, volts is what energizes the appliance or it is the force that pushes electricity through wire to the appliance.

2 The amps flowing through any wire has to deal with cross-sectional area or lets say thickness of the wire. The relation between them is given by: I=VenA; I is current, e is charge of an electron, n is no. of free electrons, and A is the cross sectional area of the conductor.

3 The W in the 1000W stands for Watts, the unit of power. Power = voltage times current. So you can calculate the current the iron is using by dividing the power by the voltage, 1000/220= 4.5 amps.
