(a) What is ozone? How is it formed?
(b) How does ozone layer protect us from harmful effects in the environment?
(c) What is UNEP? What step has been taken by UNEP in 1987 to prevent too much damage to the ozone layer?
Answers
Answer:
(a)Ozone, or trioxygen, is a chemical with the symbol O3. This means one molecule of ozone is made of 3 oxygen atoms. Ozone is also called trioxygen. Ozone is formed from dioxygen by the action of ultraviolet light and also atmospheric electrical discharges.
(b)The ozone layer acts as a filter for the shorter wavelength and highly hazardous ultraviolet radiation (UVR) from the sun, protecting life on Earth from its potentially harmful effects. ... That is,the lower the ozone levels, the higher the solar UVR.
(c)UNEP stands for United Nations Environment Program.
In 1987, UNEP signed an agreement to stop the CFC production at 1986 level, amongst its member countries. Montreal Protocol was signed in September 1987 which states to reduce the consumption and production of ozone depleting substances in order to reduce their quantity in the environment thus protecting the fragile ozone layer.
◾ Ozone is a layer over the Earth's atmosphere which protect us from harmful UV radiation ( ultraviolet radiation), solar flares and other such radiations which are extremely hazardous to us.
Ozone is made up of O3 i.e Ozone (O3 is called as Ozone).
◾ Ozone rebounce or absorb or filter the radiation from space hence protect us.
◾UNEP stands for
United Nation Environment Program
The steps should be taken to protect the Ozone layer are
1. Reduce the pollution.
2. Stop using electronic gadgets which produces Ozone sensitive gasses
3. Reduce or stop the use of CFC (cloro floro carbon) which is most leathel gas for Ozone.
hope it helps...
