PHOTOSYNTHESIS
- It is a process by which plants make their own food.
- It is an endothermic process.
- It is a chemical process in which plants convert light energy into chemical energy.
- This process converts water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and energy-rich organic compounds.
EQUATION :-
(sunlight energy)
6CO2 + 6H2O -------------------------------> C6H12O6 + 6O2
Carbon dioxide and water in the presence of energy produces glucose and oxygen.
STEPS INVOLVED :- This process takes place in the leaves of the plants. Inside leaves there are tiny structures called chloroplasts which further contains a green pigment called chlorophyll.
- Water is absorbed by the roots and carbon dioxide enters through stomata.
- Chlorophyll absorbs the energy from the sun to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.
- After the separation of molecules, hydrogen separated from water and carbon dioxide are used together for the production of glucose and oxygen is released in the atmosphere as a waste product.
