PHOTOSYNTHESIS

  • It is a process by which plants make their own food.
  • It is an endothermic process.
  • It is a chemical process in which plants convert light energy into chemical energy.
  • This process converts water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and energy-rich organic compounds.

EQUATION :-

                              (sunlight energy)

 6CO2 + 6H2O -------------------------------> C6H12O6 + 6O2

Carbon dioxide and water in the presence of energy produces glucose and oxygen.

STEPS INVOLVED :- This process takes place in the leaves of the plants. Inside leaves there are tiny structures called chloroplasts which further contains a green pigment called chlorophyll.

  1. Water is absorbed by the roots and carbon dioxide enters through stomata.
  2. Chlorophyll absorbs the energy from the sun to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.
  3. After the separation of molecules, hydrogen separated from water and carbon dioxide are used together for the production of glucose and oxygen is released in the atmosphere as a waste product.
