To find:

  • Equivalent resistance of circuit ?
  • Current through 12 ohm ?

Calculation:

  • First of all, 12 ohm , 8 ohm and 20 ohm are in series.

So, R1 = 12 + 20 + 8 = 40 ohm.

  • Now, this 40 ohm is in parallel with 40 ohm.

So, R2 = (40 × 40)/(40 + 40) = 20 ohm.

  • Now, this 20 ohm is again in parallel to 20 ohm near the battery.

So, R3 = 20 + 20 = 40 ohm.

So, equivalent resistance of circuit is 20 ohm.

Voltage across 40 ohm and (12,20,8) ohm complex

So, V1 = 12/2 = 6 volt.

So, voltage across 12, 20 and 8 ohm will also be 6 volts.

Let current through 12 ohm be i.

So, i = 6/(12 + 20 + 8) = 6/40 = 0.15 amperes.

So, current through 12 ohm is 0.15 Amp.
