Title ‘Bholi’ is for the protagonist in the story. She was called ‘Bholli’ because she had been looked upon as a simpleton since her childhood. When she was ten months old she had fallen from cot; some part of her brain had been affected consequently. She had been a slow learner and hence she came to be called Bholi. The same girl at the end showed lots of courage and refused to marry because her father was being pestered for dowry.
