A universal indicator is a mixture of different dyes which shows different colors based on the value of the pH scale. It tells us whether a substance is acidic or basic and also its strength.

When concentrated sodium chloride is electrolized, the products formed are sodium hydroxide, chlorine and hydrogen. So, chlorine is collected at anode, hydrogen is collected at cathode and NaOH is found near anode. This is known as chlor-alkali process, here chlor refers to chlorine and alkali refers to NaOH. The reaction is -

Nacl + H2O > NaOH + Cl2 + H2

Answer:

A) a substance that changes to different colours according to whether another substance that touches it is an acid or an alkali

B)Chemical equation : 2NaCl + 2H2O ---------------- 2NaOH + Cl2 + H2. The process is chloro-alkali process. Chloro for chlorine and alkali for sodium hydroxide. In this process hydrogen gas is evolved at cathode and chlorine gas is evolved at anode.
