a) vinegar is CH3COOH
it is used as food ingredient mostly for pickles 

b) it is because they have covalent bonds and forces of attractions are less

Vinegar is Acetic acid CH3COOH its a caoboxylic acid
Its use in preservatives in picles etc

This is because the forces of attraction between the atoms of carbon compounds are not very strong and form covalent bonds, thersore they have low melting and boiling points.
