a) SULPHURIC ACID IS KNOW ASKINGS OF CHEMICAL BECAUSE ITS MOST OFFTEN USE AS A MEASURE OF DEGREE OF INDUSTRIALIZATION.
b)When we add concentrated sulfuric acid to sugar the result is interesting. The sulfuric acid is dehydrating agent and it dehydrates the carbohydrate sugar, removing the water and heating it into steam leaving behind a carbon foam. Thats why it looks black.

a) Sulfuric acid is known as the king of acids due to the following properties.

  • It is one of the most stable form of acids that can be prepared easily in laboratory with high efficiency and less economic expenditure.
  • Highly used chemical in large number of industries.
  • It has wide variety of uses in forming compounds which are essential in day to day lives.
  • It helps in the formation of various chemicals that c an be used in fertilisers for increasing higher concentration of sulphate ions in the soil.

To Note:  Sulphur is a Macronutrient. Due to this it's deficiency leads to a disease called as chlorosis which cause leaf based diseases.

b) Sugar turns black with addition of concentrated Sulfuric acid.

This is because, Sulphuric acid is generally regarded as a dehydrating agent. Due to this property, it removes all the water molecules present in the crystal of sugar molecule. Since sugar is a carbohydrate, It generally has elements, C,H and O. Now on removal of water we get removal of H and O due to which only C remains. Hence on reacting only carbon element is present which leads to the black colour.

Reaction associated: C₁₂H₂₂O₁₁ + H₂SO₄ => 12 C + 11 H₂O
