a) What will happen if a bar magnet is cut into half?
b) What is a magnetic compass?
Answers
Explanation:
A) if we take the larger magnet consisting of North Pole and South Pole and cut it into equal halves then the two bars will become separate new magnet bar with their own North Pole and South pole separately this happens because a magnet bar is considered to be made of smaller magnets known as magnetic domains and they have their own poles. So when a larger magnet is cut into half the two new bars becomes new magnets having same physical properties as the bigger bar.
B) A magnetic compass is basically nothing but a simple magnet which relies on the magnet force of the earth the needle is a magnetic needle in a compass meaning that it has a North and South poles so its South pole needle always points towards the North Pole of the earth.
