a). The purple color of potassium permanganate will disappear due to oxidation of ethanol . Formation of carboxylic acid is taking place in that case.

b). Acetic acid is formed when potassium permanganate is mixed to warm ethanol . Ethanol is oxidised to Acetic acid .

  • Potassium permanganate acts as an oxidising agent .
