(a) (i) Image is formed at retina

    (ii)The image is formed in front of the retina

(c) The child is suffering from myopia and the power of the lens is -2 Diopter

Explanation:

(a)

  • Myopia is called as Nearsightedness, which results in poor or blurry vision for the objects in longer distance.
  • Myopia occurs when one's eye shape causes bend in light rays and thus results in image formed in front of the retina.
  • For the normal person with better eyesight , the image is formed on the retina.

(i) If an object is kept at distance of 25 cm from the eye, for a person suffered from myopic, the image of the of the object is formed at the retina

(ii) If an object is kept at distance of infinity, for a person suffered from myopic, the image of the object is formed in front of the retina

(b) The diagram showing the effect of Hypermetropia and its correction is attached for reference.

  • Hypermetropia is a type of eye defect occur when the eyeball is slightly very short which results in poor vision for closer objects . and it can be corrected by using "convex lens"

(c) The negative focal length indicates the lens used by the child is concave and the child is suffered from Myopia.

Focal length of the lens, (f) = - 50 cm

                                        (f) = -0.50 m

The formula to calculate the power of the lens is

$ \text{Power of the lens} = \frac{1}{\text{Focal length of the lens}} (Diopter)

$ \text{Power of the lens} = \frac{1}{-0.50}} (Diopter)

$ \text{Power of the lens} = - 2 (Diopter)
