Plastids impart color to different parts of a plant and are present in plant cells only. If there wouldn't have been any difference between mitochondria and plastids then these two functions of a cell namely respiration and imparting color would have hampered.

There had been no difference between mitochondria and plastids. Answer : Mitochondria are found in both plants and animal cells while Plastids are found only in plant cells. Thus, oxygen evolved would have been consumed by the plants themselves and life might have not existed on earth.
