Given :-

A wheel having a diameter of 3 m starts from rest and accelerates uniformly to an angular velocity of 210 R.P.M in 5 seconds. Angular acceleration of the wheel is ?

Solution :-

  • First, let us convert R.P.M (rotations per minute) into rad/sec

  \rightarrow 1 rpm = \sf\frac{\pi}{30} rad/sec

  \rightarrow 210 rpm = 7π rad/sec

  • We need to calculate angular acceleration
  • We know that :-

\rightarrow ω = ω₀ + αt

   Where :-

   → ω = final angular velocity = 7π rad/sec (We found out earlier)

   → ω₀ = initial angular velocity = 0 (Given)

   → α = angular acceleration

   → t = time taken = 5s (Given)

\rightarrow 7π = 0 + α(5)

\rightarrow α = \sf\frac{7\pi}{5} = 1.4π rad/sec²

The angular acceleration of the wheel is 1.4π rad/sec²
