(a) When a copper vessel is exposed to moist air for long, it acquires a dull green coating.

Answer :- As the metal reacts with various chemicals and gases present in the atmosphere and it results in the formation of copper carbonate which is green in color. The reaction will be as follows. Hence, the corroded coating of green color is copper carbonate which is basic in nature.

b) What happens when sodium reacts with water?

Answer :- Sodium metal reacts rapidly with water to form a colourless basic solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and hydrogen gas (H2). ... The resulting solution is basic because of the dissolved hydroxide. The reaction is exothermic.
