Solution:-

Given,

Weight of X in water = 2 N

Weight of Y in water = 2.5 N

\setlength{\unitlength}{1 cm}\begin{picture}(0,0)\put(0,0){\line(6,0){6}}\put(6,0){\line(0,4){4}}\put(0,0){\line(0,4){4}}\put(1,1){\line(0,1){1}}\put(1,1){\line(2,0){2}}\put(3,1){\line(0,1){1}}\put(1,2){\line(2,0){2}}\put(2,1.5){{\footnotesize $\rm X$}}\put(4,0.5){\line(2,0){1.5}}\put(5.5,0.5){\line(0,1){1}}\put(4,1.5){\line(4,0){1.5}}\put(4,0.5){\line(0,4){1}}\put(4.8,0.8){{\footnotesize $\rm Y$}}\end{picture}

The Buoyant force is the main reason for the decrease in weight from the original weight

As the weight of X is less than the weight of Y

Therefore,

X will float in the liquid whereas Y will sink in the liquid

If X is floating then the buoyant force experienced by X will be more then Y

Therefore,

a) X will experience more buoyant force than Y

We know that Buoyant force = Volume of the object immersed in the liquid x Density of the liquid x Acceleration due to gravity

\rm F_b = V\rho g, \rm F_b is the buoyant force and V is the volume of the object immersed in the liquid and \rho is the density of the liquid and g is the acceleration due to gravity

b) Here from the above the relation we can tell that volume of the body is directly proportional to Buoyant force

As the buoyant force experienced by X is more than Y, therefore the volume of X is greater than Y.
