Plaster of Paris is a white compound which becomes hard on mixing with proper quantity of water. It is used to maintain joints in a fixed position.

It is prepared by a quick setting gypsum plaster consisting of a fine white powder, which hardens when moistened and allowed to dry.Plaster of Paris is prepared by heating CALCIUM SULPHATE DIHYDRATE or GYPSUM,to 120 degree-180 degree.

          CaSo4 . 2H2O →373K→ CaSo4 . 1/2H2O+1/2H2O
