What is a number that has a whole number and a fraction part?
I think you're looking for the term mixed number.
Mixed numbers are usually written as
amn
For example, 327
But, really, this just means
3+27=237
Rational numbers can always be written as this (just let a in the general form be 0 if the number is less than 1), and it is better form than the typical mixed number notation, which looks like implied multiplication. However, the best notation is always to write an improper fraction, i.e. just write it as a fraction x/y such as in the final equality of our example.
