Let the list price be x
Discount = 20%
C.P of retailer = 80x/100 = 4x / 5
The retailer sold the item at Discount= 5% on the list price
Discount = 5%of x = 5x/100
S.P of retailer = x - 5x/100
= (100x - 5x) /100
S.P = 95x/100
19x / 20 = ₹ 38
x =( 38 × 20 ) / 19
x = 2× 20 = 40
The C.P of the retailer = 4x/5
=( 4×40) /5
= 4× 8 = 32
C.P of the retailer = ₹ 32
Retailer sold it = ₹ 38
Retailer earned a profit = S.P - C.P
= (38-32) = ₹ 6
Hence, the Retailer earned a profit =₹ 6
