Transgenic animals.

Explanation:

  • Transgenic animals which possesses a  foreign gene which is inserted into their genome.
  • The transgenic animals are so called because they have their DNA which is manipulated and thus the transgenic animals possess and express foreign gene.
  • The role of transgenic animals are as follows:
  • (a) Transgenic animals such as transgenic mice has been used to test the polio vaccine safety before they are used for humans.
  • (b) Transgenic animals are used to prepare Biological products. Biological products are commonly present in Medicines. The biological products are produced by the transgenic animals, by the induction of genes in them. These genes codes for a particular product. For example: Human protein such as (alpha-1- antitrypsin).
