Questions:-

  • (a) Why did Mendeleev have gaps in his periodic table?
  • (b) State any three limitations of Mendeleev’s classification?
  • (c) dHow does electronic configurations of atoms change in a period with increase in atomic number?

Answers:-

  • (a) Mendeleev's periodic table is an arrangement of the elements that group similar elements together. He left blank spaces for the undiscovered elements so that certain elements can be grouped together. In future,It was later grouped on the basis of atomic mass, atomic number, chemical properties etc.
  • (b) The Following were the three limitations of Mendeleev's Classification:-
  1. Position of hydrogen was not justified.
  2. Increasing order of atomic mass could not be maintained.
  3. Isotopes have similar chemical properties but different atomic masses, they cannot be given separate Places.
  • (c) In a 'period' with increase in 'atomic number' from left to right, the 'electronic configuration' changes by keeping the shells the same in the period and the electrons.

Know More:-

He claimed the famous periodic law that “Element properties are a periodic function of their atomic weight.” Mendeleev placed elements in the order of their atomic weights in the form of a table known as the Periodic Table of Mendeleev. He arranged the elements in the order of increasing relative atomic mass. He noted that the chemical properties of the elements and their compounds showed a periodic trend.

Answer:

(a) Mendeleev left some gaps for undiscovered elements, because he predicted that there would be such elements which will fit in the gaps in future. He also predicted the properties of these elements.

(b) Three limitations are. Position of hydrogen was not justified. Increasing order of atomic mass could not be maintained. Isotopes were not given separate place as they have different atomic mass.

(c) In a period, the inner core shell remains same and the valence electrons in valence shell goes on increasing from left to right. The number of shells is same.

hope it helps U if yes so mark as brainist nd follow me
