a) Answer: Iron articles are painted to prevent them from rusting. After painting iron surface does not come in contact with moisture and air which cause rusting.

b) Most commonly it is combined with nitrogen at 30% to 40% to inhibit anaerobic spoilage mechanisms. Due to its relatively high solubility, it easily dissolves into the moisture and fat of food products.
