(a) Why magnification is taken negative for real images and positive for virtual images?

(b) Why convex mirror is used in rear view mirrors and not concave mirror?

b2kryadavptkt: 1 to the new Cartesian rule object above the line is positive so virtual image is also positive because it formed above the line.. and real image is formed downward so it is negative

real images are formed on the side where the values are taken to be negative and same for virtual images.this is according to the rules of sign convention

convex mirrors are also known as converging mirrors. hence to show a larger area in a small space coven mirrors are used vice a versa cocave mirrors would enlarge the image hence they are not used

✔️✔️ QUESTION ✔️✔️

Why magnification is taken negative for real images and positive for virtual images?

✔️✔️ ANSWER ✔️✔️

1.............Magnification is an the ratio between the height of the object and the height of the image.

2...........REAL IMAGE

height of the object carries a positive sign while the height of the image carries a negative one

hence , magnification taken as negative

3......... VIRTUAL IMAGE

the height of the image, as well as the height of the object, carries a positive sign.

hence, magnification taken as positive

✔️✔️ QUESTION ✔️✔️

Why convex mirror is used in rear view mirrors and not concave mirror?

✔️✔️ ANSWER ✔️✔️

1....The concave mirror produces enlarged image

2....concave mirror produces real and inverted image which makes difficult for the driver to see.

3.....convex mirror cover more area for looking the object.as compared to the concave mirror.

4...convex mirror is used in rear view because it gives more area.
