Given:

Speed of the wind that is blowing in the north direction = 5 km/hr

Speed of the airplane that is moving in the east direction = 200km/ 40hr

To find:

Velocity of the airplane with respect to the wind.

Solution:

The velocity of wind = 5 km/hr j

Velocity of airplane = 200km/ 40 hr i = 5 km/hr i

Velocity of airplane with respect to the wind:

= velocity of airplane - velocity of wind.

= 5 km/hr i - 5 km/hr j

= 5 (i - j) km/hr

Therefore the velocity of the airplane with respect to the wind = 5(i -j) km/hr.
