A window has a height of 1 m and a width of
0.5 m. Two beams of width 10 cm each cross the
window, one parallel to the width and the other
parallel to the height. Find the area of the open
part.​

Answer:

height and width will decrease by 10cm or 0.1m

height = 1 - 0.1 = 0.9m

width =0. 5 - 0.1 = 0.4m

area of open part = lb = 0.9 × 0.4 = 0.36m
