A wire 10cm long and it's resistance is 25ohms.It is cut into two pieces of length 4cm and 6cm.
what is the resistance of each piece of wire?
what would be the effective resistance of the two pieces of wire ,if they are connected in parallel?

Answer:

(1) R1=10 ohm , R2=15 ohm

(2) Reff=6 ohm

Explanation:

When a wire is cut into pieces the relation

(Resistance/length) =constant, is valid

so R1=(25/10) ×4=10

and R2=(25/10) ×6=15

When resistance are connected in parallel we have,

(1/Reff) =(1/R1) +(1/R2)

so after calculations

Reff=6ohm.
