Answer: 18 cm.

Length of rect. , l = 20cm.

Its breadth , b = 16cm.

Since, same wire is bent in the shape of square . So , perimeter of rectangle must be equal to that of square.

So, perimeter of rect. = 2(l+b)= 2(20+16)=72cm.

Now perimeter of square = perimeter of rectangle = 72cm

But, perimeter of square = 4a

So, 4a =72

a = 18cm.
